ENTEBBE — The Board of Trustees of Nkumba University has appointed Sulaiman Bbosa as the institution's new Deputy Vice Chancellor for a four-year term effective June 1, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement dated June 5, 2026, signed by University Secretary Francis Ssengendo.
According to the statement, the appointment was made by the Board of Trustees of the Registered Trustees of Nkumba Educational Trust under the Instrument of Appointment of the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University dated January 6, 2014, and in accordance with Section 48 of the Nkumba University Charter, 2007.
“The University staff, students, and the wider University community are kindly requested to accord Dr. Bbosa their full support, cooperation, and goodwill as he assumes and discharges the responsibilities of this important office,” the statement said.
The position of Deputy Vice Chancellor had remained vacant since 2022 following the appointment of Jude Lubega from the role of Deputy Vice Chancellor to Vice Chancellor.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Chairperson Muhammed Kalyango said the search for a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor had been comprehensive and carefully conducted.
“The search for a Deputy Vice Chancellor has been a deliberate and thorough process. We are pleased to welcome one of our own to this important office, and we are confident that Dr. Bbosa possesses the leadership, experience, and commitment necessary to advance the University's vision and strategic objectives,” Kalyango said.
The Board described Dr Bbosa as an accomplished academic, researcher and administrator with extensive experience in university leadership, teaching, research and institutional development.
Over the years, he has served Nkumba University in several capacities, contributing to academic quality assurance, strategic planning, institutional growth and student-centered learning initiatives.
Before his appointment, Dr Bbosa served as Director of the university's Kampala Campus. He has also held positions as Marketing Manager and Head Coach of the university football team.
Academically, he holds a PhD in Monitoring and Evaluation, a Master's Degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor's Degree in Development Studies and a Diploma in Development Studies.
Dr Bbosa brings nearly two decades of professional experience spanning higher education, humanitarian work and organizational management.
His previous engagements include service with the Uganda Red Cross Society, where he worked as Branch Manager and Youth Coordinator. He has also worked with Botherine Consultancy Ltd, Hope for Restoration Initiative and Family Tree Compassion.
The Board of Trustees and university management called upon staff, students, alumni, parents, development partners and other stakeholders to support the new Deputy Vice Chancellor as he assumes office.
University leaders expressed confidence that his appointment will contribute to the continued growth, transformation and pursuit of academic excellence at Nkumba University.
